Online graphical dictionary - great web 2.0 resource!

April 17th, 2007 by admin

Today I decided to push the button “Stumble!” on the toolbar in order to be redirected to some interesting web-sites. Yeeep!! I found the very interesting and useful web-site that  is really essential for writers, journalists, students, teachers, and artists!

This web-site is called Visuwords - Online dictionary - http://www.visuwords.com

Visuwords

As you may notice this is not just a dictionary or explanatory one but the dictionary of collocations and derivatives, also based on similarity, opposition and other morphological and semantical categories.

You just enter the word you need (the semantical nest) and all the words that are associated with it will be displayed within a second as the source is based on Web 2.0 Ajax technology.

An outstanding resource - strongly recommended! :-)

P.S. The company offers this source absolutely free! If you know PHP a bit - you can install it on your web-site and get tons of visitors, I presume.

Once again about rel=”nofollow”…

March 17th, 2007 by admin

I know that I must know that you all know what nofollow means ;-)

NOFOLLOW tag tells Google not to follow the links on a specific page

At the same time it’s high time to check again whether this parameter doesn’t work in ALL cases. I mean Google Webmaster Tools and its service to find out all kind of links: inbound and outbound ones.

I have looked through some of my projects’ details in WebTools when I stumbled upon an interesting thing - WebTools SHOW INBOUND LINKS THAT ARE TAGGED BY REL=”NOFOLLOW”! How on Earth can this be?! :-) I started to dig further and found a bunch of links that “recommend” my projects from web 2.0 social bookmarking networks! How should I interpret this fact? Are such links still crawlerable? Do the robots follow and reindex pages? Oh, the issue about PageRank is the most burning one, am I right? ;-)

Nevermind, we should wait for the next TBPR Update - PR will be out of question then. Nevertheless, am I the only one who have noticed this fact or not? Is it a bug? Or may be Webmaster Tools doesn’t … well, it is impossible. Google can not contradict itself. Should I ask M.Cutts directly? ;-)

Stumbleupon.com - how to get maximum from it!

February 25th, 2007 by admin

Not so long ago I have come across the interesting Social Bookmarking resource that helps people to share there bookmarks, their opinions, etc.

stumblexchange2007

Then I saw some tips on the Russian forums how to use Stumbleupon.com in order to gain much traffic to your web-site. The only thing is that these guys write a bit chaotic ;-) I’ll try to rearrange here everything in steps and in a clear type of user-language:

1) Go to the http://www.StumbleUpon.com and download the toolbar from there. Install it on your FireFox browser - this is not an advertisement for Mozilla ;-) On FF - the whole process works faster.

2) Add all your web-sites to the Favourites.

3) Push the button - “I like it! ” on the toolbar with the big finger up. In the pop-up window - give a short description to your web-site. Do NOT neglect this step otherwise somebody else will give a description and you can’t be sure that it will be adequate ;-) Open one the most important web-site from you Favourites and give the desc.

4) Then go here: http://www.stumblexchange.com/register.php and Register. Do not forget to insert your nickname!

5) After the registration is completed, push this button on your left: userCP and insert the web-site you have determined in step 3.

6) The preliminary step is done and now it is important to grasp the whole idea of “bookmarks socializing”. You enter Stumble and see the list with 5 nicknames. First of all, you are to click on the nickname - a pop-up window appears where “Add friend” is the button we need. After you’ve done this, pay attention that close to the nickname there is the main web-site of this user. You must click on it as well and then push a button “I like it!” in your Toolbar. Haven’t you forgotten about this? ;-) The button should become green - then close the web-site.

7) Do this procedure with other nicknames and their primary web-sites.

8) Push the button Check and if there are red messages, it means that you’ve done something wrong or the web-sites in your friends profiles could not be accessed.

9) Repeat the procedure from Steps 6-8 in order to receive more and more points of your reputation.

To summarize, what you’ve done? You have earned your points and it means that the same number of people will add you, your web-site and your bookmarks into their favorites.

The result is guaranteed! Sooner or later you’ll start getting traffic to your web-site as well as to your web-sites that are in the Favorites/Bookmarks. Check it - you’ll love it! :-)
